Dear delegates, participants, WorldSkills and Government officials, and fellow citizens of Livingstone,
It is a great honour and privilege for Livingstone City, Zambia’s tourist capital, to be hosting the prestigious WorldSkills Africa competition and TVET Conference in April next year. This is a significant milestone in our city’s history, which will certainly leave a lasting legacy. Livingstone, home to the Seventh Wonder of the World – the Victoria Falls – is the perfectly suited for this world class competition as it not only provides a wide array of tourist attractions but also thrives on a variety of skills in various sectors including the culture of this nation.
The WSAL 2025 event will assemble over 1,500 participants from different stakeholders which will include best young talents from across the African continent to showcase their skills and compete in various trades and technologies. Additionally, a further 10,000 to 15,000 spectators are expected to visit the competition venue as observers during the event. The WorldSkills Africa event which our City will host will not only put Livingstone on the global map but also provide a platform for our African youth to shine and develop their skills for the benefit of our countries’ economies.
This event also aligns with the Zambian Government’s vision to empower the youth and promote technical and vocational education as a key enabler for economic development and enhanced entrepreneurship. We are committed to ensuring that our young people acquire the skills necessary to drive economic growth and development. As we gather here today, let us remember that just as it takes a village to raise a child; it takes skills to build the future we want.
Together, we can cultivate a generation equipped with the expertise and innovation needed to shape a prosperous and sustainable tomorrow. As we get closer to the WSAL 2025, I extend a warm welcome to all of you who plan to be part of this iconic event in Livingstone, a city renowned for its natural beauty and rich heritage. We look forward to sharing our hospitality and displaying our unique attractions that will make your visit memorable.
